题 目：A local grammar approach to contrastive speech act analysis
提 要：In this talk I will first introduce the concept of local grammar and briefly discuss our recent research on local grammars and speech acts (Su 2017, 2018, in press; Su & Wei 2018). I will then propose a local grammar approach to contrastive and/or diachronic speech act analysis, which will be demonstrated with a case study exploring sex differences in apology and their diachronic changes in spoken British English. The aims are two-fold. On the one hand, I aim to further show the general applicability of local grammars in language and discourse studies; on the other hand, I attempt to present a methodological innovation for corpus-based speech act studies.
CORPUS: n. (pl. corpora): refers to a large collection of a representative sample of natural texts, based on which language studies, theoretical or applied, can be conducted with the aid of computer tools.
