On 17 March 2014, Prof Chen Guohua met with a delegation from the Cambridge University Press headed by Claudia Bickford-Smith, Group Director, International Education, in his office at 4pm. The two other members of the delegation were Babara Orridge, Sales Director, International Education, CUP, and Geoffrey Wu, Marketing Executive, China Education of CUP. Dr Shao Xueping from the School of English, BFSU, and Dr Cheng Lixia from Dalian University of Technology also took part in the meeting. The two sides discussed how the newly published 14 plays of New Cambridge School Shakespeare are to be annotated in Chinese and published in China in the form of co-branding with a Chinese publisher.
On the basis of an extensive survey of the needs of Shakespeare teaching in schools in English-speaking countries, this new edition of Shakespeare, under the chief-editorship of Prof Richard Andrews, Dean of Faculty of Children and Learning, Institute of Education, University of London, lays special emphasis on the interpretation and commentary of the plays, contains a tremendous amount of background information and photographs of Shakespeare performance, and is laid out in a completely new format, rendering it especially suitable for the teaching of Shakespeare and for students rehearsing and performing the plays. The CUP has created a dedicated multimedia website for this new series. The Apple Company has also launched a number of apps which allow the reader to touch the screen of the text and listen to the sound track of Shakespeare performances.
As a consultant to the New Cambridge School Shakespeare, Prof Chen will serve as the chief editor-annotator of its Chinese-annotated edition. He informed the visitors of the composition of the advisory board and the annotators of this Chinese edition.(Editor：admin)
